FNB Vita Dance Umbrella Festival (Johannesburg): Company performs 'Moving Cities' choreography by Ami Shulman and 'Tales Off the Mud Wall' - 10 and 11 March, performed at the Plein Theatre in Amsterdam as part of Afro-vibes Festival 11-16 June, performed at Jomba Festival in Durban 23 - 26 August, at FNB Dance Indaba in Cape Town 26 - 30 September 'Revolution' is presented for the Dunhill Symphony of Fire in Lagos, Nigeria - 18 to 24 April 'Southern Comfort'- first phase: is premiered at the Celebrate South Africa Festival in London - May 26 and 27; is performed in Amsterdam's Plein Theatre during the Afro Vibes Youth Day Festival - June 11 to 16; the company is invited to perform the work at the Jomba Festival in Durban and Indaba Festivals in Cape Town- August 23 to 26 and September 26 to 30 respectively. The full work with musicians is presented as part of the Arts Alive September festival in Johannesburg. The duo performed in France (Maubege) for the Maubege Festival 21 November. Rhythm Blues - World premiere at the Holland Dance Festival 15 and 16 November. Collaboration - Residence at Funda Community College, a project of the French Institute of South Africa in collaboration with a French based Campagnie des Musiques a Ouir, South African artists Mbogeni Buthelezi and Tokozani Mthiyane. Awards: Gregory Maqoma received the FNB Vita Dance Umbrella Award for the best original presentation of work in contemporary style for his 'Rhythm Blues' Shanell Winlock is named the FNB Vita Outstanding Female Dancer. Maqoma is named The Standard Bank Young Artist of the Year for 2002 2000 Invitation: to perform Rhythm 1.2.3 in Brussels at the festival Sum/Some of the PARTS 27th February. Collaboration: Vuyani Dance Theatre Project with Faustin Lenyekula created 'Tales Off The Mud Wall' a dancenext project as part of the Tanswochen Wien Festival in Vienna July 15 - August 16; and also presented in Vienna, Sofiensale July 13. Created 'New Direction' a project in collaboration with other choreographers for the Standard Bank National Arts Festival. Company in collaboration with Afrovibes performed in Waterloo, Brussels for the South African Stand at the Worlds Festival September 24. Standard Bank National Arts Festival (Grahamstown): Company season at the Festival presenting Rhythm Blues/Rhythm 1.2.3 (The Remix) July 1 - 9. Cosmic Theatre (Amsterdam): Company performs Rhythm 1.2.3 in September 29 and 30th. Workshops: 2-Days workshop with Die Nuwe Amsterdam (DNA) in Amsterdam September 26 and 28. 1999 'Rhythm 1.2.3' is created and premiered in June 29 to 30, 1999 in Amsterdam. Also premiered in South Africa in August. Workshops: Two workshops for the International Theatre School in Amsterdam. Arts Alive Festival (Johannesburg): Company presented the preview of 'Black Man White Balls' for the Festival in September |
