The noble idea to form VDT, in 1999, visited Gregory Maqoma while he was away on a dance scholarship at PARTS, in Brussels. An unbelievable growth profile has written itself over this short period of time. Of the works created thus far , some were nominated, others scooped awards. Other VDT programme support FNB Dance Umbrella Centre National de la Danse The National Arts Festival The Dance Factory Prins Claus Fonds voor Cultuur en Ontwikkeling The Arts Alive International Festival The Akram Khan Foundation and Sadlers' Wells Vuyani Dance Theatre also functions as the South Africa-based Coordinating Office for the Afrovibes Festival in the Netherlands. Afrovibes is a bi-annual multi-disciplinary festival on South African performing and visual arts. It is held in the cities of Amsterdam and The Hague. The festival is an initiative of the late South African performer/musician, Raymond Matinyane, that was realized in 1999. Gregory Maqoma is the Artistic Director of Afrovibes and Sikho Malinga is the Festival's SA Coordinator.
